Mangochi to host inaugural Malawi Fashion Night
Mangochi will host the inaugural Malawi Fashion Night scheduled for October 3 to give fashion designers and models a new platform to showcase their work and reach audiences.
Lakefront Properties has organised the event as part of efforts to promote local fashion talent while showcasing the potential of the lakeshore area as an events destination.
In an interview, Lakefront Properties proprietor and Malawi Fashion Night executive producer Lilian Azizi said they conceived the event after observing a gap in platforms available for fashion designers to showcase their work and connect with the world.
She said: “Designers are not recognised enough and now with the world watching us through platforms such as Miss World, our designers have to be appreciated. We have to be able to recognise and support them as well,
“This is an opportunity for designers to showcase their work and bring out more talent in the field.”
Azizi said that through the event they intend to give models from the district an opportunity to participate.
“We would like to work with Mangochi models as well so that we can promote that talent from Mangochi,” she said
While eight models have so far been confirmed, organisers are looking for eight more to reach their target of 16.
The event will feature eight designers and one stylist, with designers expected to showcase collections in three categories of bridal wear, beachwear and casualwear.
Among the participating designers is founder of Dolphins Designs, Doreen Billiat, who said she is preparing a bridal collection, Ascents, which she said is a representation of growth, elevation and the journey towards new heights.
“I am excited and well prepared to showcase my bridal collection, Ascents. I am currently refining the garments and ensuring that every detail reflects the craftsmanship, elegance and vision of Dolphins Designs,” she said.
The event will feature designers, including Isabel King of IZA Fashion House, Blessings Manjandima of Kamwaambe, Ekari Makunganya of Wahri MW, Tapiwa Banda of Piwa de Couturier and Chifundo Sofia Mhango of The Stitchroom.
Other participating designers include Tiyamike Magombo of Tiaz Designs, Halima Yuda Chasukwa of Katarina Bridal Services and Majestic Fashions, alongside stylist Miss Kimbe Beza of Dolphins Designs.
The event will also feature music performances by Kell Kay and Saint alongside DJs, cultural dancers and other activities.
